 | | Trackside on the Rotterdam - Milan freight corridor |
 |
Rail interoperability will figure largely in the development of pan-European rail freight corridors, which in turn will bring greater market share to rail. The Rotterdam - Milan corridor project provides a concrete example of what's underway. ALSTOM is playing a major role, providing much of its advanced technology. |

| | The RBC/RBC interface will soon be a standard |
 |
ERTMS specifications are now being completed as the result of the consolidation phase and the update of the TSI Annex A in April this year, with many specifications added as to how to demonstrate and test equipment, most notably the onboard part. Among the decisions made, the proposal from ALSTOM/Ansaldo has been retained as the basis for the RBC Safe Interface standard. We believe this protocol could be applied to a much wider scope to facilitate ERTMS implementation |

Editorial

I'd like to thank the many people who expressed their satisfaction with the first edition of our e-magazine dedicated to ERTMS, @Transport Trans Europe Signal.
In this issue, you'll find the latest news concerning ALSTOM and ERTMS, with updates on the development of our current projects, notably in Athens and in Spain, along the Zaragza-Huesca line.
We have also included in-depth articles on ERTMS technology. These should help to provide a solid understanding of ERTMS that, we hope, will aid in the success of ERTMS projects in Europe.
François Lacôte Senior Vice President of Technology ALSTOM Transport
