CORADIA LINT for vectus presents itself on the InnoTrans 2004

ALSTOM and the newly established vectus company exhibit two new regional trains of the successful motor car family

Our youngest member of the CORADIA LINT family presents itself on the open-air ground of the Innotrans railway exhibition in two versions: as a one-unit and a two-unit train. The special feature of these trains: their individual design and flexible application.

The railway manufacturer ALSTOM from Salzgitter will deliver a total of 28 CORADIA LINT trains to vectus Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH (vectus). From 12 December 2004 on, the ten one-unit and the 18 two-unit vehicles will start commercial service on four lines of the Westerwald-Taunus-Netz around the city of Limburg. "In future vectus will cover a mileage of around 2.4 million kilometers every year. The new vehicles of ALSTOM will enliven the mass transit in our region," Veit Salzmann, managing director of vectus, said.

One- and two-unit trains can be operated as multiple units. Thus the fleet can be flexibly operated and optimized according to every day?s passenger volume.

Dynamics and zeitgeist present itself in the exterior and interior design of the trains for the newly established company, a common subsidiary of the Hessische Landesbahn GmbH (HLB) and the Westerwaldbahn GmbH (WEBA). The coloration has been realized together with vectus in a joint design process. Coloured in green and yellow on a white ground with the characteristic wings of a bird it reflects the overall concept of vectus and harmonizes with the wooded landscape of the Westerwald region. Being an important marketing component it allows the young company to position itself in the region as a modern service company.

The one-unit trains are 27 meters long and have 72 seats and 85 standing facilities. Having a length of 41 meters the two-unit vehicles offer 129 seats and 140 standing facilities. They drive up to 120 km/h. All trains are air-conditioned and equipped with a ticket vending machine, toilets for mobility impaired persons and a manual ramp for wheelchair users. The spacious multi-purpose areas accommodate luggage and bicycles without difficulties. The light passenger rooms provide separate compartments for 1. class passengers. Continuous luggage racks of glass, tables in all passenger areas and comfortable seats with arm rests guarantee a laid-back journey.

"The new trains for vectus are a very important and attractive reference for us. They prove once again how variably our modular CORADIA LINT trains can be tailored to the individual requirements of the lines and the needs of the passengers," said Dr. Dieter Klumpp, managing director of ALSTOM LHB GmbH in Salzgitter.

Since the first vehicles have been commissioned in 2000 CORADIA LINT has established itself as one of the most popular regional trains. Up to now, ALSTOM sold approx. 300 CORADIA LINT motor cars all over Europe. Over 160 vehicles thereof are successfully operated in passenger service and already covered a mileage of 80 million kilometers, which is about 2,000 times around the earth. CORADIA is derived from Greek and means "through the region". It is the brand name of all regional trains of ALSTOM. LINT is an abbreviation for "light innovative suburban railcar".

With more than 35 product lines and a presence in more than 60 countries, ALSTOM's Transport sector offers complete products and services for new rolling stock, signaling, and electrical and mechanical infrastructure as well as maintenance and rehabilitation services to four distinct types of customers: urban transit authorities and operators; intercity passenger rail operators and rolling stock owners; rail freight operators; and intercity railway infrastructure owners. ALSTOM's Transport sector, with sales of 4.9 billion euros in financial year 2003-2004, is among the world's leading suppliers to the railway industry.
