Athens Suburban Project

Project outline Managing a major project ALSTOM as the co-leader of the joint venture of the turnkey project to build a 40 km. Airport link for the Greek capital, is in charge of the project management engineering and the, the design and testing and commissioning and the supply of the railway electro-mechanical equipment as well as signaling, telecom, train control (ERTMS) and traffic management. The airport link will be made of 15 stations equipped with: Signaling and train detection system A SCADA sub-system: The SCADA equipment is compliant with IEC environmental standards relative to industrial equipment (including: IEC 654 - 3 - Vibration tests, IEC 654 - 1 - Temperature tests and EN 60529 - Protection index for enclosures). An ATS (automatic train supervision) Sub-system Other Telecommunication system (intercom, PABX system, passenger real time information sub-system, clock synchronization sub-system) A full security sub-system including CCTV, alarm system, emergency call point system, public address Ticketing system All the subsystems share the same communication backbone which provides them with IP conveyance capability. Those sub-systems as well as the ATS one are managed in A global Control Center.

Security system The security is achieved by principal means of CCTV. It is assisted by additional equipment such as the emergency call points for passengers or embedded detection of abnormal situations. The digital CCTV sub-system monitors key locations in the Athens suburban railway system. It is composed of equipment installed in a central control room and in each individual station control master room.

Emergency call point in station The whole system has the following main tasks:       - Monitoring of platform edges, emergency call area and guard site on the Platform       - Monitoring of the station?s entrances and exits       - Monitoring of ticket vending machines and counters       - Monitoring of ticket validation zones (turnstiles) The images from the monitored zones are available at two levels:       - Station guard rooms       - Central operations & controls The day to day operation are similar whatever the level thanks to a single software suite named AGATETM Guardian.

CCTV Wall It provides for principal functions:       - Camera/zone selections based on graphic mimics       - Alert management, case filing and history       - Display live cameras       - Display stored/archived pictures       - Storage/archiving management

Security system features Security cameras in station The digital CCTV system is a client-server multi-user architecture IP base. The operation and management can be done from any workstation on the network. A password-protected mechanism ensures proper access to authorized operating personnel. The system is designed to make use of the backbone in the most efficient way:       - Video compression Wavelet 3D type limits the bandwidth necessary to transmit a high quality video images in less than 2 Mbits/s (Mode FULL, 25 images/s)       - Only those streams displayed in control room (or stored centrally) are transmitted. Near term video storage is done locally in station so that no use of backbone is necessary to achieve it.
