CORADIA LIREX - The new dimension of travelling

CORADIA LIREX is a modern, comfortable and economical vehicle ideally suited to serve quick connections between regions and cities. Thanks to its modularity it offers many possibilities for the individual adaptation of the vehicle and the interior.

CORADIA LIREX is designed for service:

between the regions as a regional train, regional express or replacement for an inter-regional train,
in conurbations as suburban trains,
for cross-border traffic.

The vehicles of the CORADIA LIREX family are of a complete modular construction and largely consist of proven components and assemblies already used in many mass transit trains.

In addition, this family includes the experience gained with the LIREX Experimental as well as modern technologies used. The "Light Innovative Regional Express" LIREX is an innovative test vehicle for concepts and components, and has been developed by ALSTOM together with Deutsche Bahn AG and promoted by the Saxony-Anhalt Land. Besides many other innovations, it is distintive by the fact that all main units are situated on the vehicle roof to provide a continuous low floor.

Barrier-free travelling

CORADIA LIREX trains offer barrier-free travelling thanks to:

easy access level - two floor heights with an entrance height of 760 and/or 600 mm are optional,
wide doors with a width of up to 1,300 mm for a comfortable and quick change of passengers, also comfortable for travellers with prams, bicycles, wheelchairs and luggage,
low floor throughout the whole train.

The trains feature by high ride quality thanks to their comfortable seats, large storage space and the air conditioning system - depending on the configuration.

The interior gives a feeling of safety during the journey thanks to:

transparency achieved by wide gangways,
extensive passenger information,
video monitoring system,
talk back alarms.

Variable design

The ALSTOM engineers have attached great importance to a modular design. Capacity, traction system and interior fittings can be designed and combined variably to tailor the vehicles according to the respective passenger profile and the conditions of the line, within a defined frame.

Capacity:
The family includes three- to five-unit trainsets with capacities of up to 328 seats for the five-unit train. Carbody sides with one or two doors are optional.

Traction system:
CORADIA LIREX offers state-of-the-art traction technology of which the components are situated on the roof. An option is the dieselelectric technique for the service on lines without catenary.

Interior fittings:
Offering a wide range of options for the interior fittings CORADIA LIREX leaves nothing to be desired: a large variety of seat arrangements, variable multi-purpose areas, modern passenger information systems. Examples for these fittings are working zones with laptop connections, catering areas or simply the proven vis-à-vis seating arrangement.

LIREX Experimental -

The CORADIA LIREX family is based on the innovative design of the LIREX Experimental (Light Innovative Regional Express), a test vehicle for modern concepts and components, that already attracted a lot of attention on the InnoTrans 2000. The LIREX has been developed by ALSTOM together with Deutsche Bahn AG and promoted by the Land Saxony-Anhalt. Up to now, it already covered a mileage of approx. 300,000 kilometers in passenger service on lines around Magdeburg in Saxony-Anhalt. From December 2004, it will restart service, equipped with flywheel storage systems.
