Regio CITADIS
50 modern low-floor tram-trains for RandstadRail

Up to now, a total of 78 tram-trains of the Regio CITADIS type have been ordered from ALSTOM, of which 28 trains for the Greater Kassel area. This year in April the Dutch transport operator HTM Personenvervoer NV (HTM) ordered 50 two-system vehicles worth 150 million euros. This contract will be carried out at the ALSTOM sites in Salzgitter, in the German state of Lower Saxony, and in Ridderkerk, the Netherlands.

The three-car two-system vehicles are very similar to the Regio CITADIS tram-trains for Kassel. They will be used on RandstadRail Noord, a new light rail network connecting the centres of the Hague and Zoetermeer. Their design allows operation on the railway network as well as on the urban tramway network of The Hague. The first vehicles will be delivered at the beginning of 2006, with passenger service scheduled to begin mid 2006.

Each bi-directional vehicle will carry up to 220 passengers and is provided with a low-floor portion of 75 per cent and a low entrance height. All tram-trains are equipped with high-performance air-conditioning systems, an extensive passenger information system and five doors per side. Their maximum speed is 80 kilometres per hour.
